Borjomi Producer Wins Clone Battle
Late Tuesday, Moscow Arbitration Court committed Russky Borhzom to pay 5 million rubles to Georgian Glass & Mineral Water/IDS (GG&MW) as remedy for copyright infringement, Reuters reported.
In addition to compensatory payments, Moscow Arbitration banned Russian clone of Borjomi, Russky Borhzom, from selling the mineral water copying the famous brand and ruled to withdraw its product from retail in part and in whole.

”Now we see that we are able to defend our rights in courts. That is what we are doing now and will be doing in future,” commented Vladimir Ashurov, CEO of GG&MW/IDS Group. “Of significance is not only the financial part but also the moral aspect. For us, with our standing in Russia, it is particularly vital and particularly gratifying.

The Russian government’s consumer protection authority, Rospotrebnadzor, banned the sale of Georgian mineral water past May. Before the ban, the Russians bought roughly 75 million liters of Borjomi each year. The brand used to be the most popular in Russia, according to producing company.
