Moldova’s Wine to Re-Emerge in Russia in 2 Months
Moldova’s wine will probably re-appear on Russia’s market in two months, Vadim Gustov, chief of Federation Council’s CIS Committee, told the reporters in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.
It is the question of time. The Russians will be able to drink vintage wine of Moldova in about two months, Gustov said, emphasizing that Russia’s market needs the goods produced in that country.

For Moscow, Moldova is of great interest as a country with which Russia has always had good relations and as a country for transit to Balkan states.

The senator said that, during March 20 to 22 visit to Chisinau, the delegation of Russia’s legislators will focus on economic cooperation of both countries and on issues of laws’ harmonization and the place of parliaments in the interstate relations of Moldova and Russia. No meeting of this kind has been held for over two years, Gustov pointed out.

Russia banned exports of Moldova’s wine in late March of 2006. Before the sanctions, Russia’s sales had accounted for up to 80 percent of all wine, cognac and sparkling wine produced in Moldova. As a result of the ban, Moldova’s exports of wine product to Russia went down 5.5 fold on year in 2006.
