Russia’s Envoy Calls Rucker’s Speech a Sermon of Kosovo Independence
Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vitaly Churkin lashed out at U.N. Envoy in Kosovo Joachim Rucker for his speech dedicated to the future status of Kosovo. It was just a sermon of Kosovo independence from Serbia, Churkin said in Security Council on March 19.
The strong rhetoric of Vitaly Churkin in Security Council followed the speech of U.N. Special Envoy in Kosovo Joachim Rucker, whom the Russian ambassador faulted for one-sided and useless sermon of Kosovo’s independence.

”Rather than telling the parties that they should look for accommodation, a mutually acceptable solution, they are jumping the gun and beginning to advocate outright independence, and this is not good,” AP reported citing the Russian official.

The Kremlin’s standing on Kosovo is to proceed with negotiations of Belgrade and Pristina. After a year-long effort, U.N. envoy Martti Ahtisaari is expected to deliver to the Security Council the recommendations for Kosovo by the end of next week. As the general sentiment is that the further talks will make no sense, Serbia's sole chance to keep under its jurisdiction the actually independent Kosovo is that Russia and China, perhaps, will veto the resolution.
