Kommersant Eyes Russia’s Forbes, Newsweek
Gazprominvestholding General Director and Kommersant owner Alisher Usmanov is eyeing Russia’s assets of German Axel Springer that have been put up for sale, according to some media of Russia.
Usmanov’s interest in Russia’s Forbes, Newsweek, OK! has been simultaneously reported by a few media managers, RBC Daily wrote. “Usmanov has studied various options, both the swap of stocks and simple buyout of share in Axel Springer Russia,” said one of the sources. But Kommersant CEO Damian Kudriavtsev denied the rumors.
Another potential buyer is Baring Vostok Capital, which has approached Axel Springer Russia with the respective offer already. But Andrey Kostyashkin, who is the managing partner at Baring Vostok Capital, said he knew nothing about it.
The rumors about Axel Springer’s intention to dispose of its Russia’s division emerged around a month ago. To deny the data and ease fears, Axel Springer Russia delivered an official letter to its employees, specifying that the matter at stake was not the sale but rather strategic partnership with publishing houses aimed, for instance, at further expansion in Ukraine and other markets of CIS.
