Ahmadinejad Asks Permission to Address U.N. Security Council
Iran’s U.N. Mission sent a letter to the Security Council President Dumisani Kumalo of South Africa, requesting permission for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak before that body when it votes on sanctions against Tehran. Dumisani Kumalo promised to present the request to other members.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to attend the meeting of the U.N. Security Council and speak before the body when it votes on new sanctions against Tehran. The world major powers will impose the sanctions for Tehran's refusal to halt uranium enrichment.
To defend the nuclear program of his country, Ahmadinejad is willing to lead a delegation of 38 diplomats, Associated Press reported referring to a source in Security Council.
On March 15, the six intermediaries, including the Security Council's five major powers and Germany, have basically agreed on the draft resolution on the nuclear program of Iran and presented it to Security Council to be voted next week. Once passed, the resolution will ban arms exports from Iran and freeze accounts of individuals and companies related to Tehran’s missile program. It will also call on all nations to avoid granting new loans to Iran.
