Iran Threatens U.S. with Military Action
Iran has threatened to respond with military action if the United States attacks the country to destroy Tehran's nuclear program. That statement was attributed to secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani by IRNA, the Islamic Republic News Agency. “Any [U.S.] military action would have military response,” Larijani said.
Larijani announced at the end of last month that Iran will respond positively to U.S. proposals of negotiations through official channels, but it will not accept any preliminary conditions. He emphasized that U.S. demands that Iran stop enriching uranium before negotiations begin are unacceptable.

Larijani also noted that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mohammadi has stated that the country is ready for any developments, including war.

Larijani made his statements against a background of rumors that the U.S. is preparing to attack Iran. Although Washington has said that it has no plans for a military strike against Iran, the American leadership also refuses to rule out the use of force to solve the Iran problem. Information about a buildup of the American military presence in the Persian Gulf seems to be reliable so far.
