Veshnyakov to Leave Central Election Commission
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has appointed five members to the new Central Election Commission of the RF, the president’s news service reported. Today’s chief of Commission, Alexander Veshnyakov, isn’t among them despite his desire to work in this body for four years longer.
Under the President’s Decree on the RF Central Election Commission, the members of the latter will be Igor Borisov, who is the board chairman at the Vote Rights Public Institute, Federation Council Senator Stanislav Vavilov, Russia’s Public Chamber’s Office Chief Igor Fedorov and Vasily Volkov and Maiya Grishina from the Central Election Commission.
New members of the Commission have been appointed, as the authority of the current Commission expires in late March 2007. The president’s decree takes effect on the day of its signing.
The president, however, appoints only a third of the Commission, while Russia’s legislators elect the remaining members.
As to Alexander Veshnyakov, who is the chief of today’s Central Election Commission, the rumors are he will go to one of the European states as ambassador.
