Volga-Dnepr to Buy New Boeing 747-800s
Volga-Dnepr Group has sealed today a contract with the U.S. Boeing to acquire five new Boeing 747-800 freight aircraft, according to Prime-TASS.
The catalogue budget of contract stands at $1.4 billion. The money will be taken from clients, Volga-Dnepr chief Alexey Isaikin hinted at the signing ceremony, refusing, however, to specify the definite sources of funding.
Volga-Dnepr may acquire five planes more under the option that expires in 2015. Russia’s airlines will have the first Boeing 747-800 in February 2010. The planes will be operated by AirBridgeCargo, which is a member of Volga-Dnepr.
Moreover, Volga-Dnepr takes on lease three Boeing 747-400 freight aircraft from Gecas for 12 years and withdraws from its park the currently-operated Boeing-747-200s in September.
Another agreement that Volga-Dnepr and Boeing have reached today is using the super-heavy An-124-100s under the logistics program of Boeing-787 production. The planes will be operated in case of emergency.
