Russia Raps U.S. for Biased Opinion on Human Rights
A part of the U.S. State Department’s annual human rights report which describes the situation in Russia is biased, politicized and deeply confrontational, the RBC news agency on Friday quoted a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying.
Mikhail Kamynin said in a statement that the report is abundant with distortions, outdated information and intended inaccuracies. Information from the annual report of the Russian ombudsman Vladimir Lukin was also misinterpreted, according to Russian officials.

The foreign ministry’s spokesman underscored that Moscow had repeatedly voiced its position concerning the biased view on the human rights record in Russia to American leaders. Mr. Kamynin said. Washington, however, persists in applying double standards in evaluating the human rights situation. Russia, meanwhile, points out to gross human rights violations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Russian foreign ministry’s statement points out to recurrent infringement of human rights in the United States and the fact that this country has not yet signed such milestone human rights protection acts as the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights or the Convention on the Rights of the Child. What is more, the United States still permits the use of death penalty, Russian officials remark.

Moscow is convinced that the politicization of the human rights issue only deteriorates existing problems further, undermining principles and objectives of international cooperation, Mikhail Kamynin said on Friday.
