Chavez Calls Negroponte Professional Killer
Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez again blamed the assassination plots on Washington and said that Deputy to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice John Negroponte was professional killer.
The idea of killing him has gained weight in the United States, Chavez said, pointing out that, in the CIA, a few people have been appointed to special offices to assassinate not only in Venezuela but in Latin America at large. According to Chavez, the evidence is the recent appointment of Negroponte, the former director of national intelligence, as deputy to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, AP reported.
In return, Chavez said, he ordered senior officials of Venezuela to take the offensive, as the previous standing of the country had been of defensive nature. He also promised surprises to the United States in the near future.
Those accusations aren’t the first ones made by Chavez, who repeatedly blames assassination plots on the United States and Columbia. There was one attempt actually, he said, pointing to Manuel Rosales, who unsuccessfully ran against him in December elections, as its mastermind. According to Chavez, he always feels danger because of competitors, who are trying to get rid of him.
Because of those fears, perhaps, 27 Colombians and three former officers of Venezuela were condemned October 2005 for planning to kill Hugo Chavez.
