Gap Between the Wealthy and Poor Widens in Russia
The difference in revenues between the wealthy and the poor Russians extended from 14.9 fold to 15.3 fold in 2006, Economic Development Minister German Gref told the government.
”This is a very high indicator,” the minister acknowledged, specifying that the gap in salaries of budget-sustained employees and those working in real sector is widening.
Regardless, the actual money revenues of population stepped up 10.2 percent on average in 2006 and the salary went up 13.4 percent, signaling the trend for prosperity growth is solid in Russia, Gref said. Besides, the retail grew 13 percent and turnover of paid-up services went up 7.9 percent.
The amount of social pension will reach the living wage by late 2009, the minister promised. The issues of pension reform, Gref emphasized, should be solved in the nearest future to remove the problem of disbalance that has been accumulating in this system and that may threaten equilibrium of the whole pension system in future.
