Lavrov Sets to Negotiations with Hamas Leader
The talks of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Hamas Political Bureau Leader Khaled Mashal have begun in Moscow, Interfax news agency reported.
Russia will push for lifting the blockade from Palestine, Lavrov made clear during the talks. According to the minister, Russia’s efforts are targeted at winning the support of the world community for the peaceful process, making it non-reversible, including in part of calling off the blockade.

Lavrov said his meeting with Mashal will strengthen the positive results achieved at the Mecca talks of Fatah and Hamas. At that get-together, the Palestinians agreed on setting up the government of national unity, Lavrov specified.

”Russia’s authorities have been backing up the idea of such government creation since the very beginning, and we support definite steps in this direction,” the minister pointed out. The Mecca meeting “has opened the gate for reviving the peaceful process between Palestine and Israel.”
