IOC Vice President Names Chief Problem of Sochi’s Bid
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) finished its work in Sochi. The IOC was evaluating the chances of the Russian city to win the right of hosting winter Olympic Games in 2014.
IOC Vice President Chiharu Igaya said that Sochi’s bid has no drawbacks, but that there are some problems to be solved, reported RIA Novosti news agency. Igaya pointed out that Sochi will have to hurry up to build all Olympic facilities in due time. IOC official added that Sochi-2014 steering committee should reach compromise with ecologic organizations and solve all issues of saving the region’s natural environment.

Meanwhile, Igaya said that Sochi bid’s strong point is that both the government and the people support the idea of hosting the Olympic Games. Besides, Igaya thinks that the uniqueness of the bid might help Sochi to win, because winter Olympic Games are usually held in winter countries, while Sochi is a seaside resort.

Sochi is competing for hosting the 2014 Olympics with South Korea’s Pyeongchang and Austria’s Salzburg. The winner will be named on July 4, 2007, at the IOC’s regular session in Guatemala.
