Russia: No Imposed Solution for Kosovo
Russia is not going to force Serbia to recognize the independence of its breakaway province of Kosovo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Berlin on Thursday. Only the two parties can make a decision, Mr. Lavrov said. He also noted that UN envoy for the Kosovo conflict resolution should not to set a deadline for a final decision on the status of Kosovo.
Vienna hosted the final round of talks on the status of Kosovo on Thursday. UN representative Martti Ahtisaari chairs the talks between Serbian and Albanian negotiators to consider a UN initiative to bring Kosovo closer to independence.

Mr. Ahtisaari earlier said he would present his final draft plan at the UN Security Council irrespective of the talks’ outcome. The Security Council will then have to vote on the plan and status of Kosovo.

Russia supports Belgrade in resisting the UN plan to give effective independence to the Serbian province.
