Foreign Cars Sold at Large in Russia
In Russia, the foreign car sales soared 88 percent on year to 74,361 in January of 2007, according to the report of Automobile Producers Committee of the Association of European Business in the RF.
Ford (9,882 cars sold in January) took the lead past month. It was followed by Chevrolet (9,441 including GM-AVTOVAZ) and Toyota (7,322).

The 2006 car sales grew 20 percent on year to 2,060,000, said PwC Partner Stanley Root. The sales of Russian cars slid 5 percent to 800,000, while the sales of foreign cars of Russia’s assembly climbed 87 percent to 280,000. The import of new cars stepped up 76 percent to 720,000, but the import of used cars shed 19 percent to 260,000.

In terms of money, the 2006 car sales grew 45 percent to $32 billion past year. According to Root, the annual sales of 2 million cars have driven Russia to the level of Europe’s leading markets - Italy, France and Britain.

In Russia, the car output grew 25 percent on year to 85,600 in January, said the report of Federal Statistics Service. As many as 1.2 million cars were produced in 2006, 9.9 percent up on year.
