Legislator Spotted Piracy Software in State Duma
The software of State Duma's computers isn’t the licensed one, said Mikhail Zapolev, the Communist Party deputy of the lower house of Russia’s parliament, RIA Novosti reported.
When speaking about the allegedly unlicensed software in the State Duma, Zapolev recalled the trial of Alexander Ponosov, director of the Perm Region’s school, who was nearly brought to account for the pirate Windows spotted at his school.
Any deputy of the State Duma could have been in boots of Ponosov, as computers received by the State Duma have no licensed software, Zapolev said Wednesday.
Russia’s public at large was abuzz because of Ponosov’s criminal case. The school director was accused on count of copyright breach with potential imprisonment of up to five years. The computers arrived at school with already installed software, Ponosov insisted.
In the end, Ponosov’s case was closed due to its trifle nature. Of interest is that Microsoft repeatedly announced it had no claims to Ponosov and had initiated no criminal cases against him.
