Iran Hasn’t Financed Bushehr Nuclear Plant for a Month
Fuel supplies to Bushehr Nuclear Plant will be put off on payment terms violation by Iran, representatives of Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency told RBC news agency.
Iran has difficulties with funding the project. The financing has been delayed for a month already, representatives of Federal Atomic Energy pointed out.
Besides, Iran has agreed that the construction equipment will be delivered from some third country only in late 2007. “Both circumstances will evidently affect the construction dates,” a source with Federal Atomic Energy said.
The fuel to Bushehr Nuclear Plant will be supplied “as required,” Russia’s Security Council chief Igor Ivanov said, having given rise to the speculations about shelving the fuel supplies.
Under the regulations, a nuclear plant is to be provided with fuel six months prior to the actual launch. More likely than not, putting into operation the Bushehr facility will be delayed on problems faced by Iran. Initially, Russia was to supply the fuel there in March of 2007.
