Muscovites Live 7 Years Longer Than Other Russia
The lifetime of Muscovites grew by nine years in the past 12 years. Taken for Russia on average, the increase was no more than a year and a half, Rossiiskaya Gazeta reported Monday.
Residents of downtown Moscow live the longest lives, showed the joint demographical survey of Russian Science Academy and researchers of health institutions. In the city’s center, the men averagely live 70 years and women tend to reach 78. In Moscow’s Zelenograd-town, however, the men have to confine to 65 on average, while the women may count on 75 years and a half.

Apart from the center, the northern, southwestern and northwestern regions of Moscow proved rather favorable in terms of the life duration, while the eastern, southeastern and southern regions of the city turned out not so advantageous. There, the level of education is lower, but exactly this indicator is generally thought to affect life duration, as the educated people are more aware of health risks and follow healthier diets.

Nevertheless, the death rate for able-bodied Muscovites (from 20 years old to 39 years old) went up in the city. Cardiovascular diseases are said to be the key reason of the increase, while the second one is injuries and poisoning. Moreover, non-residents account for more than 10 percent of all deaths. Their social status is lower than the one of the Muscovites, and the death rate is higher.

The researchers attribute longer lives of the Muscovites to booming revenues and stable medical care. Of interest is that the number of cancer deaths is going down both in Moscow and Russia. In Moscow, however, the peak of all cancer diseases is registered in the generally favorable center of the city.
