Software Piracy Case of School Director Too Trifle to Continue
The case of Alexander Ponosov, the school director accused of installing unlicensed software of Microsoft, has been closed due to its trifle nature, Rossia TV Channel reported.
The initial plans were that the court would read Thursday its verdict against Alexander Ponosov, the director of Perm Region’s school. Moreover, the public prosecutor even demanded to impose on Ponosov a fine of 3,000 rubles.
Ponosov was urged to admit guilt and solicit a truce but the adamant director preferred to go on with the trial.
Ponosov has clearly captured the headlines, having enjoyed even the comments of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. At the recent news conference, Putin called his case total nonsense and urged to bring to account the piracy product distributors rather than users.
Of interest is that Microsoft appears to claim nothing from Ponosov. The company that allegedly suffered the damage of 267,000 rubles didn’t initiate the trial against him, said Olga Dergunova, chief of the Moscow office of Microsoft. The case was opened by local prosecutors by results of the school inspection.
