Most of Czechia Opposes Deploying U.S. Radars
The better part of Czechia’s nation opposes the possible location of the U.S. missile radar system in the country, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the sociological poll released Monday.
As many as 55.8 percent of respondents expressed negative attitude to deploying the U.S. radars in the country, though 28.2 percent favored the idea.
Asked about the root cause of the opposition to the U.S. radars, over 52 feared that exactly those radars would be the first target of the U.S. possible enemy should the war begin.
Moreover, most of those against deploying the U.S. radars said Czechia was acting by the order of Washington just as it used to follow the order of Moscow in time of the former Warsaw Treaty.
But Czechia’s PM Mirek Topolanek is an ardent supporter of the U.S. radars. The radars could be put in operation already in 2011, if the bilateral negotiations prove successful, the prime minister said.
