Russia Ready to Write Off $10bn Debt of Afghanistan
"Similar to the NATO states, Russia is concerned about the aggravation of military and political situation in Afghanistan,” Russia’s Vice Prime Minister, Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov said February 9, when addressing informal gathering of the military chiefs of Russia and NATO.
Russia stands for providing international aid to the government of Afghanistan and intends to back up the after-war development of the country and solution of its social and economic problems, ITAR-TASS reported.

“Our next contribution in this direction will be easing the financial burden of Afghanistan by clearing its debt to Russia of over $10 billion,” Ivanov said. At the same time, the minister expressed concern about the corrupt practices of Afghan bureaucrats tending to avoid fighting drug traffic.
