Germany Annulled Hundreds of Visas Granted to Russians
Some hundreds of visas issued by German embassy in Russia have been recently annulled without giving the reasons, the Interfax news agency reported.
Quite a lot of Russians with valid visas of Germany were stopped by German border guards when entering or leaving the country, said representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry on condition of anonymity. Their visas were annulled, the Russians were told.
German embassy explained the incident by the intention to establish order in the visa granting procedures. The matter at stake is unscrupulous tourist agencies of Russia providing inadequate data when submitting the documents for German visas, the diplomat specified.
”The intention of the embassy to deal with unfair tourist agencies is quite understandable,” the diplomat added. “But they should have used other methods, perhaps.” The issue “could be raised at political level in bilateral contacts of Russia and Germany,” the diplomat forecasted.
German embassy in Russia hasn’t commented on the incident yet.
