Jan Inflation at 1.7 Percent in Russia
Russia had the 1.7-percent inflation in January, Federal Statistics Service reported. The indicator was 2.4 percent in January of 2006.
The basic inflation (less short-term price fluctuations attributed to seasonal or administrative actions) was 0.6 percent past January vs. 0.8 percent a year earlier. Of interest is that, in mid-January, Finance Ministry forecasted the inflation of 2.2 percent and basic inflation of 0.8 percent for the first month of the year.
The inflation is traditionally high in January, CBR chief Sergey Ignatiev said some time earlier, blaming it on the tariff rate increase, which usually happens at the start of the year.
January inflation exceeded 2 percent in 21 provinces of Russia with the Magadan Region as the obvious leader. There, the prices and tariff rates climbed 3.3 percent, while the costs of the paid-up services soared 9.5 percent. Taken for a month, the consumer price index was 102.2 percent in Moscow and 101.5 percent in St. Petersburg.
