SVO-4 Airport to Be Constructed Near Moscow
Moscow Region’s government decided February 6 to set up a joint stock company for the Sheremetyevo-4 project. Sheremetyevo airport will have the third take-off runway and new aerodrome facilities.
The Sheremetyevo-4 project will require 17.7 billion rubles, Moscow Region’s Transport Minister Pyotr Katsyv said. According to the minister, it is necessary to construct a new runway of 3.5 kilometers as two available runways run too close to each other and the aircraft cannot land simultaneously.

The project specifies constructing new passenger terminals, warehouses and parking lots, providing 22,000 new work places as a result, the PRIME-TASS news agency reported.

”With Sheremetyevo-4 constructed and existing terminals rebuilt by 2015, the airport’s annual capacity will increase from today’s 13 million passengers to from 30 million to 32 million and to 36 million by 2020,” Katsyv vowed.

Sheremetyevo has two terminals now– Sheremetyevo-1 and Sheremetyevo-2, while Shremetyevo-3 is being constructed. “In ten years, the annual passenger turnover of three main airports of the Moscow Region – Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo will be from 65 million passengers to 70 million passengers,” the minister promised.
