Russia Bans British Poultry Imports
Russia has banned import of British poultry once the outbreak of the deadliest H5N1 strain of the bird flu hit the Suffolk producers.
The ban of Russia’s Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Service, Rosselkhoznadzor, extends to the live poultry and hatching eggs, poultry meat and all types of poultry product, which have had no thermal treatment, as well as to the birdseed and equipment used already to keep, slaughter or cut poultry of Britain.
At the same time, Rosselkhoznadzor addressed the veterinary service of Britain requesting some additional information about the spread of disease. The supervising authority intends to study the possible application of the regionalization method for further supplies of poultry from Britain to Russia.
The outbreak of the H5N1 bird flu was registered in Britain’s Suffolk early February. Over 2,500 turkeys were killed there by the H5N1 virus and the poultry producer of infected farm was to slaughter 160,000 more as preventive action.
