US Files Complaint on China to WTO
The U.S., having failed to solve dispute over Chinese governmental subsidies in bilateral order, filed a complaint on China to the WTO, according to Associated Press.
US President George Bush’s administration feels considerable pressure from Democrat-run Congress which demands more decisive measures for solving the issue of growing trade deficit.
Washington’s complaint on China says that Beijing uses state support and tax policy to strengthen positions of Chinese companies at world market and to increase their competitiveness against US and other foreign enterprises.
The U.S. wants Beijing to change its policy on foreign companies willing to work in China, and to fight against counterfeit products. Otherwise, Washington threatens to resort to lawsuits. US officials estimated damages done by Chinese pirates to legal producers at $50 billion. If China continues its program of state subsidies to its companies, it might face economic sanctions.
