America Is Not Going to Fight against Iran
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on February 2 that the U.S. does not plan to fight against Iran. “President made it clear, Secretary of State made it clear, and I make it clear...we do not intend to fight against Iran,” said Pentagon chief to the media.
Washington repeatedly disproved statements about its alleged preparation for military action against Iran. US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates asked not to take the president’s criticism of Syria and Iran as promising war, and assured that the Pentagon is not planning military invasion to these countries.
Some journalists in Kuwait suspect the U.S. of getting ready for a military attack on Iran’s nuclear objects before April 2007. The U.S. is indeed sending ships of its naval forces to the Persian Gulf.
However, the Pentagon assured that the ships are sent there not for attacking Iran, but as a response to Iran authorities’ provocations, such as military exercise in the Gulf, support of Shiite militants in Iraq, and the nuclear program which Washington believes to be aiming at creating nuclear weapon.
