Workers of Russia’s Ford to Go on Strike February 14
The workers of Ford automobile maker in Vsevolozhsk, Russia, will go on full-scale strike at 0:00 MSK February 14, Alexey Etmanov, the Trade Union chief at Russia’s Ford, told Interfax.
The workers are thinking about the strike because of the conflict with management, Echo Moskva reported some time earlier. The root cause of the conflict, Trade Union representatives said, is the absence of desire of management to enter into the 2007 collective contract that will clearly specify wages, social guarantees and labor protection measures for the personnel.
It won’t be the first strike at Russia’s Ford. The previous standoff of Trade Union and top management of the plant lasted from the fall of 2005 till the spring of 2006. Then, the workers demanded from management to hike wages because of the double growth of car production, which was scheduled for January 1, 2006 and expected to lead to higher pressure on workers. Those clashes ended once the parties compromised to the 16-percent increase in wages, though the workers called for 30 percent at the beginning.
